well.

We all knew it would end in tears..

Having bought the car, t cut it, polished it, serviced it, new exhaust, valeted interior, new set of pirelli rubber all round, new headlamp, new MOT, new tax, new proper nissan dog guard, etc etc etc.. everything to keep her mobile and trouble free for a while..

the ******g gearbox has decided it wont. It just wont. you can rev its 16v 1.3 freshly serviced lump all you want to, but its like getting a sulky three year old to go to bed, it will creep, slowly, grumpily, forward.. but the slightest obstacle (like a dropped kerb entrance to your drive) it just stops.. you have to back away a bit (slowly) and have a run up..

I'm not over the moon with this percieved drop in performance. the 0-60 time is now 'August', possibly 'August + September'..

so.. chaps.. this is where you come in..

Please help!!! I am REALLY reluctant to scrap / break the car.. it is in absolutely first class nick inside and out.. the engine is totally sweet.. it sailed through the MOT, we've done anything which had the slightest suspicion of needing doing.. (it really only needed two tyres, but a set of 4 had a certain appeal.. etc)

However I am informed that Nissan will charge me two months salary, one of my kidneys and a weekend away, just for having a little look at said problem..

So.. where should I take it? We live in the new forest (Between southampton and bournemouth) - so you know of any good auto places? Does anyone have an auto box to suit? I am told its probably just the powder clutch needing replacement.. any and all suggestions would be gratefully received! thanks... Ben 07843 048868

Oh dear. You can get replacements (only from nissan) and they are NOT CHEAP. Im talking big money here (around £1K~ from memory) Your only option within any reasonable price is to find a scrapped K11 that died a young death of crash damage, many end up in the recycle pile due to the cost to repair as you may have to find out. They usually break to abuse. You have not been revving it in N then putting it in D have you? People do this to do burnouts but very quickly it will distroy the box..

bugger..!

havent got a £1k lying about..

and no to the burnouts, this is the mrs' car, and she drives like a lettuce.. I have a stage 1 remapped Audi A4 sport for when I want to hoon about..

so advice on the options then..

spend a grand, on a car that aint worth much more than what, a grand or so, £1500 tops going by autotrader, when its done..

or break it up and sell the bits.. everything else is superb... whats the return likely to be on that?

any thoughts, while I sit and weep???

90% of k11's in Japan are cvt, loads of companies are importing low mileage March units as its so cost effective look in Exchange and Mart, apiengines is one I remember. You get a full gearbox for around £250-£300.

Nissan charge crazy prices. I ordered £100 worth Nissan parts direct from a dealer in Japan (all this years servicing parts and some funky accessories cupholder etc) would have been £400 at the local dealer.

Curry,
My N-reg 1000cc CVT did just the same. Nissan said it needed the gearbox replacing at £2300.
I got it repaired at a Autogearbox specialist in Huddersfield for about £1000, guaranteed for 12 months. No other options!

Micra, you just replied to a thread over two and a half years old. I dont thin kthat will help you much.
