Removing 1.0l auto gearbox

Hi, I am changing the engine on my 2000 1.0l auto. Is the best way to remove engine and gearbox to change them over or is it possible to disconnect the box from the engine and lift the engine out on its own like with the manual boxes???
Thanks
Jonny

I found it easier to lift the engine and gearbox out as one, then split them.

But it can be split from the engine whilst in the bay if you fancy doing it that way

If I was going to do it again for the first time I would hoist the whole lot out in one go. I tried splitting the box in the bay but couldn't get it apart and wasted hours trying. It's much easier to get apart on the garage floor :)

Thanks for the advice, I haven't worked with an auto box before so not too sure of the best way of doing it. Did you take the driveshafts out completely or did you just loosen the suspension components?
