removal of f/strut top nut

Hi all just wondered how to remove the recessed nut on the front struts,Ihave just bought a pair of KYB's but now cannot fit them as I cannot remove the nut. Do I need the nissan special tool? Thanks for any advice.

an air/impact gun will usually shift them, or else grip the shaft at the very top under the bumpstop (so as to not damage the chrome)

This is how I did it
You'll need a 14mm deep-reach spanner

Just do not close them nut with air gun. It often brakes the oil seals of the damper and in a common mistake even in many repair shops. My K11's previous owner had replaced the dampers in some pro-shop, and the result was leaking dampers and torn threads in one rear damper. Nice work from them (especially for paying customer).
