Rear brake drums

poke screwdriver through the grometted hole behind the backing plate to release the handbrake mechanism which retracts the shoes inwards away from the worn drum lip.

yes jules, like you say, you have studs that bolt into the drum eh.
its probably covered on guy,s excellant k12 site :)

Cheers Frank :). I tried this and failed (although I may have not noticed a circlip or two :D). The bearing is fitted into the middle of the drum on the K12 so you'd need pull the drum/bearing assembly off the stub axle to get it off and access the shoes which does involve removing the huge nut.

thanks alot will be doing it tommorrow weather permitting, do you have to torque the nut back up and if yes does anyone know the setting

About 200-210 ft/lbs. More than most torque wrenches can manage :).
