R33 Skyline Brakes On micra k10 Super S

How easy would it be to put r33 skyline brakes on a k10 micra, you would have to use bigger discs, GTiR ones maby?
Has anyone done this before?

I think the danger would be your car doing forward somersaults every time you touched the brakes .

Why in the he'll would you want them? Even if you were running 400bhp skyline brakes would be overkill
Besides the massively unbalance front to rear
What brakes you talking about
The gt na brakes are overkill but more suitable than the gts/gtst gtt and gtr

you would have to change the hubs first. i have some skyline calipers that i might put on my car but it would need custom discs and a mounting bracket

You need to remember gtst brakes are good for 350bhp+ on a 1560kg(from memory) skyline so unless your Micra has similar spec then your wasting your money although they would be a nice upgrade for my s14 ;)
Gtir brakes are a better option I'm not sure on fitment but I'd guess it wouldn't be a million miles off

the reason i was going for skyline brakes is 1. because i had some spare for free, 2. they are stupidly light, both calipers are about half the weight of one GTiR caliper, i think that makes the biggest difference, and 3. they have a bigger surface area than the GTiR meaning they will do the same amount of braking with less heat. and finally they look awesome, like brembos, where as the GTiR ones look like big micra brakes.

there was a lad on here that professed to have skyline rear calipers on the front of his k10, with a custom mounting bracket and k11 hubs and larger disks off of something, but i never saw them and took everything he said with a huge pinch of salt lol

Smaller would make more travel as a larger piston wold push more fluid to compensate for the larger pistons in the skyline calipers. Especially if 4 pots etc of which I'm unsure

Gti-r caiper are over kill on a k10:laugh:
My st is just over 150hp and its stops no problem with them

but the diameter of the cylinder doesn't make a difference to the travel because the breaking system is a sealed system and the pistons in the calipers will always move the same distance as the master cylinder, but with a smaller master cylinder the more pressure is applied to a smaller surface area which is then multiplied across the area of the brake cylinders.

i think they are 4 pot

I've experienced issues with different sizes of master cylinder when fitting various hydraulic handbrakes in my cars and the larger the cylinder I've fitted the less movement but more pressure (force/ area = pressure yeh) required to Pply the braking force. If the brake pads were in constant contact with the discs the brake pedal would not be affected but as the pads have to move slightly the brake pedal master cylinder would have to travel more to allow the larger pistons in the skyline calipers to take up the bite to the disc say for example 1mm.
If for example a master cylinder is 40mm in diameter and each piston is (twin pot only for simplicity) 10mm in diameter, the master cylinder is moved 10mm then eachpiston would move 2.5mmeach. ( divided by yeh)
If the same master cylinder 40 mm was used with bigger calipers 20 mm (2 pot again) and the brakes applied where the pedal was pushed causing the pistons to move. The pedal would move 10mm and the pistons would only move 1.25mm. The pedal would have to move further for the calipers to bit inthe same way as the original calipers would.
This is only applicable as the pads are not touching the discs and have to move.

ah right i get you now, so as soon as the pads make contact and stop moving and just increase in pressure it makes no difference in travel as far as the master cylinder to caliper piston size ratio goes, but of course a smaller master cylinder would allow more pressure but less travel and vice versa for a larger master cylinder.

Lol that's why my 200sx has a 300zx master cylinder and not a Micra one

Sorted peeps. My newly bought micra has Nissan gti-r front brakes (k11) and it genuinely has the best brakes I have ever driven with, also has discs on the rear. My mk1 escort has ap open back calipers on the front with rear discs too and doesn't stop As well as the micra. I'd be impressed if you think/ need better brakes than the set up fitted to this car. Runs a 5.1 diff and 116 bhp so not too slow.

unless you are hiding the most powerful K10 ever built ever! - why bother?
Never had a problem with my old K10 super s brakes with mintex replacent discs + pads

Get some pics and spec list up sounds like an awesome car

Yes was chips car. I work with him. Good fun cheap car. Just been out for a blast in the lanes and with the dry conditions and done temperature in the yoko 21s it stops incredible.
