Putting An Aftermarket Fillter on k10

Im Looking To Put An Aftermarket Fillter on k10 But Not Sure On If I Need The Idle Compensator? And The Metal Rod That Comes Out Of The Carb That Holed s The Top Of The Stock Air Box On Can That Be Removed? If Any One Can Help Be Much Appreciated Cheers
