hey all.
Im new to this Micra scene.
I have a big interest in R31 skylines,
but as my daily driven wagon is close to death,
im looking at getting a cheaper smaller car for daily
duties. while staying with nissans.

now my old man (mechanic) has talked to some workmates
an has been told to stay away from The CG13DE.
something about shim and bucket lifters giving trouble.
i have done a bit of reading, (mostly on here) and have only
found noisy timing chains to be a problem.

can anybody tell me, not so much the what to look for when buying a micra.
but the problems that may or have developed with these cars,
and or much more info on this engine?

im sorry if this has been covered.

thanks

only things that really go wrong mechanically are timing chains. dunno what your mates/dads/brothers uncle is on about with shim and buckets.. that's just about the best design to have.. same as rb26, etc. most timing chains just get noisy, and that's it.. others get noisy and break. electronically there's only ever 2 things that can go wrong. distributor and air flow meter/throttle body.. if you buy a micra, get yourself a spare of each, as chances are atleast one will break at some point in time. check for rust in the lower front rad support. that's about it. there good cars, can take a beating if you take care of it in return.

Thanks for the quick replies,
i was skeptical of his concerns too,
they said the same about my skyline before i brought it,
RB20DET, has been going strong for years now,
shame the micra dosent have a cam belt too.

ive read about the dry joint problem in the throttle body.
and AFM problems happen with all nissans too i think.

ive read the two pages you mentioned jon. thanks.
and the other things are just the common sense things,

if i get my hands on one, i plan to turn it into a tightass
mobile, Lpg installation, extractors + exhaust.
and then maybe n14 brake upgrade, LSD and S13 coilovers.
like all the other dreamers, lol

thanks again all

yeh i have seen that one online, dont have the $ together at the moment.
bet i wont see another at that price.
with my old man we can put a LPG kit on it for pretty much free.
if fuel wasnt an issue i wouldnt be looking at a tiny car.
