Mobile Phones

just a bit of help needed! time for a new mobile, and this time theyve given me the choice :( and i dont do decisions.

so

atm ive got a pink razr, which, to be fair, is complete arse. the memory is shocking, the camera is pish and i can VERY rarely get a signal.

i dont really like the "candy bar" style phone, preferring either a flippy or a slidey one. (or swively...)

the useless woman in the shop who was only after commision, recommended the samsung d900, which i quite liked, but then i went online and there was like a million more to choose from and i got confused again.

choices are now:

d900
lg chocolate
ericson w300i
pebl

im after a decent memory, the camera isnt really a problem, and bluetooth capabilities for a headset when im driving.

Any help would be great!

thanks

My sister & a few people have the new Ericsson 3.2 Mp camera phone. Not sure which model it is, and i dont think it has the swivelly, twisty, flappy bits you want, but still its a good phone!!

I work in a games testing company... I sent out a poll on the internal forum and MADE them do it! haha!

Here:

D900: 6 Votes
LG Chocolate: 0 Votes - LOL!
Ercson 300i - 5 Votes
Pebl - 1 Votes

They have to play it 8 hours a day!
So they know best i guess! It's down to personal taste really!
I prefer the D900 as I have the D500 and it's never let me down!

Need anymore info? Let me know! I've got nothing better to do! ;)

I would say steer clear of the pebl as it has the same shocking menu system as the Razr, I find the sony menus very easy and intuitive and you'd have no problem using them, same with the Samsung's mobile phones. The LG Chocolate looks very cool, but I don't know much more than that about it

And Arnold, that's the K800i, but it has no swively bits to it - it's the same design as your W800

yeh iv heard good things about d900 it would be my chioce...

manda have u got an old orange fone i can borrow whilst mine goes into the shop pls i think i remember u saying u had one cant fins ours :D

i think i'll go for the d900...

until i go into a shop and change my mind :D

thanks guys

Ericssons are infamous for the ease of blue snarfing, so i'd steer clear of them if your gonna store anything confidential on your phone.

Well just come off the phone with T-Mobile and they want £129 for it on upgrade so it looks like i'll be getting a new contract with orange. T-Moblie have been good to me in the past but this is crazy - been with them for 5 years now and they can't even give me a phone with a stupid over head! :(

The bluetooth on my ericsson barely works at the best of times

Actually, "Bluejacking" was 'invented' when a Sony Ericsson user on Esato (username ajack, hence 'bluejacking') in a bank found someone with a Nokia that had Bluetooth on by default.
http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=15976&forum=16&start=0 - check the date on the post, 2002!

I always have Bluetooth on on Visible mode, sometimes I get ".sis" files sent to me, but I always know better to decline the transfer. I then send a contact called "You've got a virus" to the person that sent me the file.

lmao! you can get some real messed up stuff down the pub if you leave bluetooth switched on!

Bluejacking is sending peeps messages, pics, soundfiles etc. Bluesnarfing is basically pairing up to mobiles so that you can download their pics, contacts, calender etc etc etc.

Bluejacking is harmless fun :grinning: ive got mobiluck permenantly on with my phone. The prob is with most ericssons they can accept files from other phones without needing user confirmation, and when pairing the phones a fair few of em just require you to enter the default pin to give you full access.

But even with a default PIN user intervention is required. Anyone that enters 0000 to some random request and then wonders why a load of random crap is appearing on their phone deserves everything they get imo!

not with a lot of ericcsons, specially the older ones, if ya enter the pin it automatically pairs you up without having to accept it on the phone - it just assumes that because you know the pin your allowed in.

both people have to enter a pin, you have to enter one and the other user has to enter one, these pins must match, you can put anything in. As long as both users put the same pin in

D900 definitely!!! I love Samsungs. I've followed Samsung from the D500 to the D600 and now the new model is the D900. It'll be a while before I get my upgrade, but the Samsung 'D' range is great!!! The D600's camera is pretty good and it's only 2.0mp's so the D900's 3.2 must be pretty cool

Sony Ericson K750i or W800, very nice phones

Nooooo Darren, steer clear. I have the K750i and Arnold has the W800. We have both had loads of probs with them and mine has been back to Sony once already, when it was only 3 months old or somethin silly!!! And it's due to go back again real soon as it's started to turn itself off again. :(

all phones have their problems though, people rave about the D series, but the sliders fail on an awful lot of phones.

My Sony Ericsson history:

A1018s (Coca-Cola model), A2618s, T200, K500i, W800i and a W810i! Hehe - only the W800 has given me issues and that was solved with a firmware upgrade, which i've offered you Mr. Arnold but you won't do it :p

Oh really!!! Like what exactly?!!! :p

You dont wanna know!!! :p

James, im not upgrading the firmware because i'l lose all my texts! Pretty crap you cant update it without it clearing everything off first.

Another bad thing about my phone is:

External memory frequently becomes unavailable
Bluetooth headset cuts out after 15 seconds of being paired
Camera takes 20 seconds to take a picture
Orange button has fallen out
Phone switches itself off
It wouldnt let me hang up a call this evening!
Can move messages to Sim but not vice versa
and i dont think they're waterproof, are they james :p

Also, my mate's on his third one!! Ok fair enough two got lost, but his latest one, he removed the battery and put it back and now it wont switch back on!!

Ive got a W800i and ive had no problems with it at all. James i would stay away from SPV my mates had them, and they hate them with a passion :) lol I over-due for a phone upgrade not sure i want, but tbh this is a bad year for phones :)

Oh yeah, the button on the directional stick doesnt work properley anymore!! LOL.

I think i've got insurance on this phone, aswell as standard maintenance being on a contract but i dont want it to go back as i'l lose my messages etc! - quite important to me that they dont go!!

All these bar the button problems would be fixed with a firmware upgrade. Bite the bullet, save your texts to Notepad and do it! There's been about 5 new firmwares since the one you have!! (See here: http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=92737&start=0 )

It's like saying XP was bad when it came out but I don't want to patch to SP2 cos I don't want it to remove "XP Professional" from the bootup splash screen

k800i, I have it, very nice phone. the only setback i've found is it doesnt come with the 3M memory card, you have to buy it seperately, but they aint that expensive anyway

phone is ordered, and like i knew i would, i chose something i didnt even mention in my first post. typical.
so everyone expect a new number text on wednesday lol
