long wheel studs possibly hub conversion

ok im saving for a set of wheels but want to step away from everyone and be the only one to fit wheels no one else has being 114 pdc or others , whats the bigest you can go with out destorying the car to do it ie 16 inch witth really low profile tyres?? as that would open up a world of possiblitys ive not lowered the car infact its a blank canvas so can do what i like starting with cleaaning the car up to begin with + repairs ie cross member ect let me know as i like to plan way aahead so i know what im doing ps sorry for the life story just giving all the info i can about what i want to do and why

the idea was once i got some really nice wheels that were kinda uniqe id look at kits or some thing to make it work but i dont want a stonky trumps car where any thing "cool" is added i like the thought of a dtm micra they race these but as a space frame car and are very wide but dosent mean i need to be wider than i am long lol thanks for the input tho 17s are a bit much

But 17s are cool

(Absolutely no idea whose car this is)

Only reason to have big wheels is to have big brakes. Biggest brakes that fit a K11 fit under 15's...

I think what is everyone is trying to say is that in our opinions 16's or bigger aren't nice looking, and with the potholed roads we have in the UK will just lead to buckled alloys and they won't handle particularly well

i guess soo but did you see that link?? i know its a photo shop but i can at least try + had a fair few cars and swaped alloys and steelys around and i never notice pot holes as bad with bigger wheels as there wider as well as slightly bigger surface contacting the road , its just my logic more rubber= more grip ?? or tho i know lower profiles will buckle easier and burst tyres

No, and link looks like 15/16" to me... MAJOR bodywork required to get that look... or everyone would have it...

im really ona mission here arnt i just wish me luck nothing wrong with all the same look but as huggy444 said it certainly is differnt , so why is it as cars get newer they decide to up the wheel size? is it todo with performance, looks or safty??? there the only reasons i can think ,take fiestas for example we all know the xr2i mk3 , yet years later they now put 16-17s on them they dont look dub to me

Larger the wheel diameter the bigger the brakes you can fit and the slower the rotational speed of the bearings (allows you to fit lighter duty bearings etc for better fuel economy) amongst other things.

great example of this , escort mk1 rear hubs being used on a noble gto m12 as they have 4x100 fitment but are 18s but the hub was only ever going to be taking 13s when they were made

Yeah, but noble has bigger arches. 18" is probably bigger than the micra arch itself... you wouldn't be able to turn the front wheels if you put 18's on a K11

true as i said max of 16s lol but it all depends on what you want, all i need is the hands on to get there ie once ive got the wheels how i remove the old studs to fit bigger ones ect and if any one knew what the fitting would be like if there would be a bit or a lot of rubbing and what would need trimming

Basically wheels are getting bigger as people want 'blingy' wheels, and producers give consumers what they want. However, the consumer is normally wrong (ask any other designer)

The big wheels make money for companies as the low profile tyres tend to be much much more expensive... And also large wheels are susceptible to buckling which in turn means people buy new wheels = more money to the companies

Stupid consumers = win win for companies

As I said, it's about bigger brakes and reducing rotational velocities, I don't think they're trying to make alloys a consumeable!

If Nobles use Escort hubs there is no way that they are 4x100.

Big wheels on a Micra can be done properly.

I believe that (from what has been mentioned on Cisco's) that there is enough "meat" in the rear hub flange to re -drill to 114.3, the fronts are slimmer and will require adapters.

There's info about changing studs in my tourquoise LX blog.

I really facncy a go at tucked 15's or 16's with tiny tyres, but wouldn't want to be in a situation where I couldn't go back to 13"s.

we are all on the same page now yes i agree that massive wheels are ott but i do like the full body look like the wheel fits not the cars sat on gocart wheels yea they do look cool but ive seen it too much i want the inbetween bling crap an the roller skate look , i really like the micra under the one with green wheels with jdm rear lights , but this is along the lines of what im aiming for the wheel size can vary quite a lot and you can still run the same size wheel over all just im not the best writing what i want to say you can get big tyres for 13s that are as big as a low profile 16 and having a lower profile in my experience gives a pointer feel with out having that risk of having to strech the tyre an wacking a kerb so you also protect the wheel too well a little at least but thanks for helping tho and i will see how low i can go ;) or tho im more into getting a decent ride with out kissing the floor all the time ha ha
