As title really - when driving along with the stereo off - it will come on. A bit vague as to what prompts this - as it is my daughters car. It did it to me today when I turned the sidelights on. Having said that - when I tried to replicate this - it would not do it . Typical !! Is this a known issue and would it ever come on overnight and drain the battery?. Thanks

Is it a stock radio? If so it should be wired to only come on if the ignition is on - in which case, no risk of it coming on at night. Unless the car's being driving at night of course....
As to what's causing it, I would go with a faulty switch - perhaps the button is so worn that every now and again it makes a connection and turns on. The head unit may be connected to the headlights, but usually only so that the display dims when you put your lights on.
