2004 (54) - Micra 1.2 Auto - GEARBOX FAILURE

Hi all,

Hoping you can help, my friend recently bought a 2004 (54) plate micra - 9months ago ish...

it's done 14,000 miles and shes had a problem with it - she describes as this;

i got off the motorway at J12 and as i was braking at the traffic lights at the top of the slip road i felt a clunk and then wen i pulled off i could feel it wasn't rite so i pulled over on the road towards toddington and put it into park then back into drive but it wouldn't go into gear

so that was it i had to get roadside recovery to take it to the garage for me

coz i couldn't get it into gear at all

Having taken it to an Allen Nissan garage they were basically told the whole gearbox would need replacing at a cost of approx £2,500.

Not owning a Micra of knowing anything about them... what do you folk make of this? I personally think it's utterly unacceptable to have a gearbox fail after 14,000 miles - she is a very careful driver and is scared to death going over 60mph so it hasn't has any abuse since shes owned it. Lets face it, it's an auto... you can only give them so much abuse!

Is this a common issue with them? (not found much on google) any feedback very welcome!

Thanks,

Sean
