K11 Ignition Problem

I have a problem with the ignition barrel or switch on my 98 K11, it's a bit tricky to describe...

When starting I have to apply pressure on the key (into the barrel) or the ignition cuts out (the dash lights go out and the engine dies).

To get it started I have to go through a repetition of pressing the key in, letting go, immediately pushing it back in if it dies. This usually repeats about 3 or 4 times before it "sticks" and the ignition stays on.

What can I do to fix this?

you probably need a new switch at the back of the barrel shevek, 2 tiny screws and a plug iirc

I've finally got round to sorting this. My local breakers had an ignition switch for £5. The replacement one is metal instead of the plastic one that was taken off (possible a recall replacement??).

Now starts first time, every time!

Many thanks to Frank - saved me replacing the whole barrel which is what I had been told was required!

Oh, and it was only a single screw :grinning:
