as above....
lets set the budget at about 15K

With my cefiro in the workshop i need a run-around, however... If i never had the micra i guess i would still be driving my stock Honda Jazz VTI if i never sold it but there are some other cars on the list i would like to try.......

1.Mitsubishi Legnum
2.EG civic hatch (DOHC VTEC swap)
3.1996 Honda Legend (VIP style)
4.Toyota Celsior
5.Nissan Stagea

Lets hear what everyone else would be driving.

Post away

yes definately liking the legnum or stagea!! massive boost buses! haha but great snow trip cars!

i'd probably own something like an old subaru liberty rs wagon (if insurance didnt cost a ****load) i'd love a typre r integra.. but that kinda breaks the 15k limit... hah

i like the micra for me... cos its cheap in petrol.. nothing to insure and register and it wont kill me as fast as a turbo car will haha jks but still handles like a go-cart

tris you're an ex rs liberty owner too huh? weird!

you can get a decent wrx or turbo liberty for 15k... fast, reliable and don't chew as much as the stagea which is a BIG fkn car...

and i reckon thirsty too as there are three for sale sitting around the streets near work, all around the same time fuel went skyward... three!

-HR31 Passage wagon
-DR30 sedan with Iron mask front
-A31 Cefiro
-NA MX-5
-KE70 project which I never finished (omg going to break the bank!)

..are the main ones but i'm sure there's a few other dream cars i've wanted to replace the micra with at times.

Possibly a stagea but it's not as much of a dream of mine as it is for a mate who was quite close to buying one.

have a celsior, its ****, bloody need to own a servo to run one of them ****ers, legnum's are slow, and there a mitsubishi :) i wouldn't mind a chaser (jzx100) or a type r ek9.. allthough both would probably blow the budget, so i'd prob just get a 32 gtr, easily had for under 15k these days. that said, apparently the nissan cube will is now eligeble for low volume importation :), love them little ****ers, so they'll probably be something to consider as a cheap run around.

Tony, my dad has had a few vr4's aussie ones and Jap spec, also had a vr4 rally car, nice cars, hard to find in very good condition these days. If you get one, go for a import, have alot better gear in them standard. We had a genuine RS vr4 done 25,000klms we regret selling it now!

Anyone who wants to pay $15K for my K11 can have it. It cost NZ$2K a couple of years ago.
With $15K I would use most to pay off my mortgage & spend around $5K on a 1999+ Toyota Vitz (Echo, Yaris). Vitz all have ABS & base models have no power steer, no electric windows/mirrors, which is what I prefer, along with 5spd & 2dr (bigger door for me to get in/out). 1L will do for around town, same as my K11, & I won't risk speeding tickets etc. I would prefer a Toyota Aygo or Iq but they're not available here, yet.
I'd consider a K12 but they're $8-$10K+++. It'd have to be a 2dr 5spd 1.2L.

For driving to the snow, holidays etc, use the wife's much larger car.

the micra's pretty much useless for dirt and snow driving huh! thats the number one biggest thing i miss about my subaru

but the upkeep and fuel bills i certainly do NOT miss, micra all the way.. fun as well

that said, i was almost gonna buy another RS liberty a few weeks ago

Hey Sportsclassic, Yes i'm a long time lover of the old VR4s. I think the first year they came out (1987) they got car of the year in Japan there was nothing as quick until the following year.

Have test driven around 10-12 Aussie and Jap spec ones, when i test drove my first Aussie spec it was dead stock and i could not get over how slow it was the Micra was not far behind.

The Jap spec ones however go very well standard and have all the power down low,If i drove a mint condion RS i would maybe buy it.
So your dad misses the car heaps? I think an Evo can't even be compared to with build qaulity the VR4 was right up there in my opion.

Thats a nice AMG vr4!!! The only thing we got for a AMG galant is the plastic cover that goes over the spark plug leads! they are super rare never seen one in person. Asked my dad he said he might have a grille the same as the one in the pic. We had a AMG engine in our old rally car, it pulled hard, great car for there time. Yeh i still prefer the build quality over the evo's, mostly the interior. If you need any parts for vr4's just email us, we have most parts been wrecking them for around 10 years.

Had to reregister. Big computer problems and for some reason could not rerigester under my old name ( Vietnam Boy ex White Knight).Yes fuel going to be a big issue. I see in the USA restaurants are now having to lock up their old vegetable cooking oils as people are stealing it to make bio diesel.I sort of like the Toyota Corolla Levin AE111 as a grey import. Last of the 4AGE motors putting out around 123kws. Some bolt on bits available also so around 130kws from a non turbo 1600cc motor plus good fuel economy.Have to think small these days so another option is the last of the Toyota Starlets made in Australia with a Starlet GT half cut which is a direct swap. This would give you around 100kws from a 1300cc motor in standard form. If you have the cash I reckon the Colt Ralliart ( if you can grow to like the shape) is good value for money.Big bangers unless you are rich are a thing of the past.Think small, think nippy.

yeah starlets are good as small cars with potential big engine swaps, pity about the name

for some reason, even the word micra, which is pretty funny in itself, isn't as bad as 'starlet'

I've seen the occasional 20v 4A-GE into EP91 starlets, which makes them quite the sleeper (induction sound from the quads on the 20v is nuts, too). Wouldn't bother with the AE111 levin. If you're gonna do something with a 20v, for FWD go with a smaller car, anything bigger than a starlet make sure it's an AE71 or other RWD rolla or something originally with an A-series block.

The 4E-FTE's in the Starlet GT's are actually quite ok.. They're even less common than Micras really, which gets the thumbs up from me :p

wtf? the 4e-fte engine's are just about the biggest **** heap motor known to man. pistons are EXTREMELY weak, and don't take well at all to boost, if your gonna build one, buy a blown motor to begin with and put some decent **** in it to start with, otherwise you'll be the jap importers new best friend.

Turbos right,i have seen these motors get only a handful more kws out of them than people are getting out of the micra and the micra was not built to take a boost.
Amagine if these micras did come out turboed like the starlets then we'd probably be getting around 130-150kws out of them,oh nissan.

I said they were ok, don't get your panties in a twist. ;) They're nothing groundbreaking I know, but at least toyota actually made the leap and made the engine and a car to suit. You're saying that assuming you're boosting higher than stock - for a company's perspective; what's the point in overengineering an engine from factory to take loads more boost than what you're going to ship it with? Building it to take the power doesn't come for free. While it's great to see manufacturers building them to take loads of power, why would a business spend the extra money where it may very well not be used?

That said, if they really can't handle stock boost with no mods for a long while (with a decent amount of abuse) then yes, I would agree with you. However from what i've seen of a few examples that have been taken to the track quite regularly, they're a pretty resilient engine.

I'm glad nissan didn't make a superturbo equivelant for the K11 as it means it's not just a process of buying the car with the package already in it. Well there are the exceptions with pre-turbo'd cars and kits but everything is still custom.. and in a way it's good.

It's not like the CG13 can't put out 130-150kW.. It's been proven that it can, several times but it's not like Nissan wouldn't have needed to reinforce the parts that people have to make the same kind of power. You can very likely make the same power as a stock 4E-FTE with standard CG13 internals, that I don't deny, but the fact that toyota actually did do it is why I thought it was cool. That's all.

i've seen plenty of stock 4e's **** themselves too... dunno what the go is, because basically every other toyota motor is bulletproof, bar the 7m, i think the 4e originally came from the cynos (oz paseo).. all they really did was fit different pistons and bolt a hairdryer on it, nothing really exciting i guess.. probably why there one of the ****est toyota motors. 4age/ze all the way, and 2j if you can fit it :) cg's are awesome motors, in theory the way the head is designed it should take a pounding if its setup right with the right cams/retainers and springs, beats the hell out of the sr design, pity the ports are so ting on a cg thou :(

Man I haven't thought much about cars lately to be honest..

The colt is a reasonable city buzzbox, but I'm kinda getting sick of FWD to be honest. You can launch it as hard as possible, but its always tricky to get away from the line really super cleanly.. I think next car will definitely be either AWD or RWD just for a change.

Maybe some kind of super practical car with a nice smooth turbo engine and some kind of traction.

- Love the new EVOs, but they're going to be like 70-80k brand new (eek).
- New FG falcon XR6turbo. Massive waste of fuel overkill though.
- Mazda CX7, pretty efficient for a big piece of crap, not too slow, nice efficient turbo engine, plenty of room and place to put everything on the roofracks (surfboard) and chuck all your crap in the back. A bit big though.
- Some kind of tidy audi turbo AWD wagon kinda thing..
- New BMW 330's look pretty awesome, mega $$$ though :(

I really have no idea and am out of touch I'm sorry to report :)

Sometimes I really miss blue monster. It just had that stupid amount of power that could pass any single car on the road!!! Well, thesedays cars are getting faster, it would be about dead even with a brand new FG XR6Turbo falcon from 0-100, but only if the micra did a perfect launch etc. But do one single modification to the falcon and it would be faster than blue monster.

Wow aaron, how much can you pick those up for now?? When are you getting it? Awesome car, I would love one too.

Yeah I'm still paying the hosting, those dodgy ads on the side bar are just covering it for me. Hence, the site won't be axed :)

The colt actually kinda chews through a bit of juice I reckon. Especially in summer in the hot air, it will empty the entire tank in one go from Canberra to Newcastle, the fuel light will come on just before reaching Newcastle. I would be boosting it a little bit, but not flogging the crap out of it.

I'll be leasing again next time which means you can claim the fuel and everything. That's the only reason I'd buy any kind of fast/guzzler thing (cx7, bmw, audi) etc. If I couldn't claim fuel, then I would be seriously back in something like a bloody K12 micra or something really efficient and cheaper. Maybe a bit bigger than a micra though.

CX7 economy? oh.. Mazda don't claim anywhere near that figure, but none of them do either.. That's pretty crap economy! It wouldn't be all that aerodynamic I guess! :)

How's this. My new GF has a new swift with 17" chrome jabba wheels installed on it. Rice burner!!! A micra would smash it, they're so slow, the wheels have killed any power it did have.

I had my micra for 12 years, from new, most know that I sold it to my bro in 2007 after I purchased my Swift Sport.

Now, if I was to be in the market for another vehicle, I would want this. Full decked out and ready to go on a wander around Oz. Mind you, they are "vintage" now, and come with the price tag to match. Do you realise that these are selling for what I paid brand new for my micra 12 years ago???

I'm about to start driving my next car...

...VW Golf GTI with DSG.

Not the fastest, the most efficient or even the best value hot hatch on the market.

But the easiest to live with on a day to day basis and just a farking nice car.

I'm so excited. :)

MY patrol remains though. ITs my true weekender... http://www.vimeo.com/1256822

Yea ive met him before when i was at Davids house...longtime ago.

Anyway David told me the RVR was quick, but i know about the GTR.
Have u got any time slips from it?? Quarter times??
If so then i think it was the one we were trying to beat....back in the hay day i used to know the owner of 101, William and i used to go out on M1 runs with another quick R33GTR, the guys name was Alex and he owns a speed shop (forgot the name) in Brisbane.
Anyway we could reach 317km/h in the 101 R33GTR and Alex's R33 kept walking away from us.
We went to the old Drag combat at Willowbank and run a 10:01 on the 1st run and got told to pack up and go home because the car didnt have a roll cage.
One day i was talking with these 2 guys and they told me about another quick purpleish GTR that run quick quarter times that they wanted to beat, andi think that this would most likely of been the one they were talking about.
