help please sump question

Hi my names annie,

I've just bought a 2001 micra 1.0 s,

93k miles, just had a new radiator, 2 new front shocks, sump, brakes etc. 12 months mot.

Seems to have been looked after and had money spent on it

paid £300 for it.

The car was bought private so no warranty.

afew days after we got it my by jacked it up to check for a small leak in the sump.
Tightened the sump bolt and leak has stopped, but he noticed there are 2 black tube like brackets with a bolt either side going from the side of the sump towards the gearbox and one of the bolts seems to have seared off the engine block next to the sump. What do these do and is it dangerous to drive. I'm guessing it will need drilling out and replacing.

Thanks annie.

They are bracing bars from the block to the gearbox,
If it's sheared the head off take the bar off and see if you get the rest of the bolt out with multi-grips or pliers then just replace the bolt
If that's not going to work then try drilling it out or use easy-outs etc.

I've got rid of one of them on my CG13 as have others that have put them in minis, no problems so far...

I wouldn't worry if you can't get the bolt out.
