Hanging Metal

I noticed a piece of metal hanging down under blue today i have drawn a ring on the picture where it is i would say its about 1ft long and has several round maybe 1inch holes in it. Any ideas what it is? Iv had a rattling noise from under the gearbox for quite some time now and its recently gotten rather loud could it be linked? See my fabulous picture courtesy of ms paint.

I'd say the exhaust heat shield screws have rotted to pieces and it's rubbing on the exhaust.

Get under, rip it off, or screw it back on in a diffrent place, common thing this is!

I might be wrong but at a guess heat shield? As far as I know I havent got one on mine anymore it got taken off.

2 heat shields so far, i remember kenny suggesting that too ages ago but i didnt have any hanging metal back then,

Problem solved it fell off goin over the speed bumps in my street i now have a plant growing in my passenger door.... bloody cheek.
