Hand brake

hi there

does anyone know how to tighten the hand brake as it is pretty weak. my mate tried to push my car with the hand brake fully on and it didnt take that much to get it moving with it on.i did buy the car off my gran and she used to put the handbrake on when she wanted to stop so maybe that had something to do with it.

Cable has probably stretched somewhat...

Easiest method is to just do up the small nut underneath the handbrake lever. I believe there may be a proper adjustment on the physical rear brakes, but cbf adjusting it really.

does your car have rear disc or drum brakes? If they are drum brakes they probably need adjusting or replacement shoes (which will in turn fix the handbrake). If they are discs it is probably the handbrake that just needs adjusting.

they are drum brakes. im gonna try that nut under the lever. i think my gran may have damaged second gear aswell as it makes a load clink noise as i put in second. this is probably because she drove every where in second and hardly changed gear.
