Gearbox problem?

Car sometimes has issues going into reverse or 1st, took me a few attempts to get into reverse yesterday(!) and it slipped out of 3rd coming off a roundabout today which was a bit worrying!

Took a friend somewhere just now and he said it sounds like a transmission problem - constant rubbing/whining noise but goes away when the clutch is pressed.

Common problem? Or gearbox having issues? It was replaced only 2 years ago!!

and worn gear linkeages dont help(has trouble geting the right gear selected)check "pollyp" blog for info

Both clutch and gearbox were replaced - I think the gearbox was replaced, may have just been rebuilt though.

The car has just been picked up by the AA and is on tow from Portsmouth back to Watford. It sounded like a load of nuts and bolts being shaken around in a bucket. I feel very sad, this could be the end
