Flywheel

I have been reading the haynes manual on the section for the flywheel in it , it says to mark the flywheel with a dab of paint in realation to where you have taken it off, no explanation is given why you must do this, I allways assumed that you could just remove the flywheel and put it back on no matter what, my question is why the dab of paint to mark it is there some sort of notch or mark on it that would affect the timing or fueling of the car can someone explain this to me or is the haynes manual full of it.

i assumed it may be for balance alignment...but it may just be the haynes being extra cautious, cos if you replace the item with a new one, theres no mention of checking it for balance in the haynes iirc.

i was clutching at straws mates i was trying to find out why the 1.6 engine would not run, i know the flywheel had been removed and put back on again, so i think i will take it out. cant understand it.
