This is mostly Directed at Aaron/afka Evade....

Thought I'd make a new thread to help other people in the future looking for this kinda info.

I have Installed an EMS 8860 fully programmable ECU into my car. I was wondering seeing that you (Aaron) have run an EMS before, What was the modification you had to do to the Dizzy to make the ignition systems work okay?

Also, Did you have any troubles with Injector Pulse? And could someone please post an actual pic of the Pin diagram for the Factory ECU plug. I found this surprisingly hard to find on this site.

If someone could please post the pic in this thread that would make it a "one stop shop" for those looking for this kind of info. Would have been handy a month ago!

Many thanks

haven't used an ems on a micra, but you'll find you won't be getting any injector pulses unless your dizzy is working properly, why did you need the stock ecu plug pin out? if your putting in a standalone ecu, i'd take the oppurtunity to rip the standard loom out, and make your own new one, without all the sh*t you don't need, and try and hide most of the wiring at the same time. nissanmania may also be able to help you out, as i remember he had to mod something in the dizzy to get his motec to function. the factory micra dizzy uses some weird ass sensor that no aftermarket ecu supports (that i'm aware of). whatever you'd have to do to the dizzy to make the ems happy, would be the same mod needed for any other aftermarket ecu also, whether it be a hall effect or optical sensor, but that's where my knowledge stops....

Turbo... thanks for that advice mate. Yeah there was some issues with the dizzy that we're trying to sort through.

Something about the sensor, which is an optical type as far as Nissan Spare Parts told me, however the drama I'm told is that there is an unusual setup in that there is no particular slot/gap that is bigger than others. But be advised that my knowledge is VERY limited as my best mate is the mechanic handling the situation.

The latest update I've heard is that they've got an idea to run with. I'll be sure to keep you updated.

However in the meantime I'd love all the info I can get on the Ignition and injector pulse side of things.

Again Many thanks :p

im looking in to the same thing geoff but with a megasquirt
what you need to do from what i've read and gathered is modify the disc in the dizzy

open her up and you'll see 5 slots, 4 spaced evenly and one little one in front of one of the slots.

cover that up, somehow and hopefully your EMS should work with it.

edit: ECU pin out thanks to Frank from the UK

yeh, had a quick squiz.. doesn't get more hands on then that. doesn't get much cheaper but.. dunno if i'd trust it, maybe on a ****ter.. but i guess, you'd only be getting one to put on a ****ter anyways. fair few options/combo's you can get, looks like for under $500 you could be the envy of the microsquirt owners out there :)

we had to modify that rotor disc and cover up that little hole.

it was also rotated slightly so we could match the timing on the ecu to what the dizzy was..

oh looks like lam.666 already mentioned it..

we used some sort of tape (im not sure...i didnt do it) to cover that hole up.

although you should probably look at getting something laser cut.

ive got some photos..hang on

hey aaron, a few questions im interested in if you could answer them that'd be great! :
1. what coil setup did you use? just the std nissan internal jobie?
2. what ignitor did you use?
3. so if you cover up the hole in the standard disc, you can just splice into the factory hall effect sensor and the computer will read ok?
4. thanks. :)

yep standard, only thing we changed was the disc.

2. what ignitor did you use?

i have little knowledge in this part..but i didnt have to add anything extra..so standard or whatevers built into the ecu?? i had bought EMS ignitors to use for a coil on plug setup that we were GOING to do..but never got around to doing so..hopefully that answers your question?

3. so if you cover up the hole in the standard disc, you can just splice into the factory hall effect sensor and the computer will read ok?

well, my EMS stinger was fine :)

4. thanks. :)

Aaron!!! Thanks so much for the info so far.

A couple more questions...

1) Did you get that disc on the left cut custom like?
2) Where was it done?
3) How much?
4) Was the disc on the left to replace the entire disc on the right?
5) Do you have any specs on the custom dizzy disc? i.e diameter, thickness of disc, spacing between slots etc....

6) THANKS HEAPS AGAIN

All the info is helping, But Im sure that I'd rather use a modified, optical type just to ensure the simplicity of installation.

One more thought, does anybody actually know if a GA16 dizzy is interchangable? The pulsar dizzy has 2 optical pickups and we're thinking this may be better to configure.

Oh Yeah, turns out that my computer was supplied with a base map for a V8!! This explains a lot as to the problems so far...

I'm using 460cc injectors. Don't know what brand. There's definately enough fuel there to sink a ship. That will not be a problem.

1. the disc on the left is the one we were going to use..it was laser cut..i never paid for them though so no idea how much it costs to do.

2/3. as above

4. we used the stock disc..with the hole covered up..the custom discs didnt end up working.
