Digicam repair/parts

My digicam is broke and I am not happy as it's not my fault this time.

It's a Fuji F801, I'm now getting focus and zoom errors, this problem got worse and worse over time so I've opened it up (it's out of warranty anyway) and the ribbon cable to one of the lens motors is broke.

Few options now :
1) Insurance claim, excess of about £50-£70
2) Fuji repair, no idea of cost
3) Change the cable myself

Third option is preferable to keep costs down buit it's sourcing the cable, I can't find any othre broke F801's on ebay and not sure if any other cameras are compatible.

Advice is welcome but please no comments about getting a new camera and SLR etc etc, not interested

Cheers

Not a very common model so repair costs may be high (for replacement parts). Your best bet is speaking to Fuji for a price of the part for a DIY fix, and ask how much they'd charge to fix it too.

Otherwise a local electrician repair shop type person may be the way to go to fix the existing cable.

Leave insurance etc as a last option

Problem is finding part number of the ribbon cable, don't want to sound like a noob when asking for a part, plus I don't think they would sell me the part (I'm not allowed to sell my Philips screen parts to anyone)

Can you put a picture of the ribbon cable up? Some of the suppliers i've been speaking to do specialist repair parts for electrical equipment - might be able to get an idea of what your looking for with a piccy :D

Try and contact an authorised repair center or dealer. They will be able to order the parts you require without any problems

If authorised dealers and repairs are anything like us with the TV's etc then it's gonna cost as much as a decent new camera :S

Well u wont know till u ask mate. Not your fault it broke so ask around and see if people can help. You never know, the part may be used in other fuji cameras so could be easily obtainable.
