Compression / Valve poblems

Hi, having problems i cant pinpoint. Just changed the timing belt on my 1.0 litre k10 manual (1987). It started ok but and revs up ok, the alignment marks are as close to the guides as they will possibly go and tension is ok. Ignition timing is ok and so too are valve clearences.

But when i quickly take my foot off the pedal after mid-high revs, the revs decrease ok but i get a sort of pshhht sound from the exhaust. The exhaust itself it relatively new and has no leaks.

Would much appreciate any suggestions, cant help but think i will need new top end gaskets and valves. Cheers

Just reading your other post about the valve, it's possible you may have a sticky inlet valve, have you lost any performance? I would just get a compression check done and take it from there. Did you change the timing belt as routine maintenance or did the old one snap?
