automatic: just stopped - selector problem?

Is anyone familiar with the auto version of the K11? This evening on a roundabout in the rush-hour the car lost power and stopped. My wife was driving - I arrived after it had been pushed into a layby. The selector would only move between N and D (and D2). The engine started fine in N, but wouldn't move the car at all in D (exactly as if the selector was actually stuck in N). Brittania were there v quickly, and got the car home.

Does this sound more like a selector-lever or cable problem, rather than the gearbox? Are there any clues that I or our normal mechanic could look for, in daylight? (He wouldn't want to touch the gearbox itself - and the local transmission specialist is booked up until February.) Advice would be very welcome.

Many thanks,
Peter Soul

Thanks. In daylight, we could see that the linkage on top of the gearbox is still firmly connected to the selector lever and moving with it - as far as it goes. But the car won't move in D, so this problem and the blockage must be in the gearbox. This was confirmed by the Nissan garage. I've now booked an initial diagnosis with a transmission specialist next week...
