My one (the one I sold) used to be so smooth. No cranking or screaming... turn the key and the idle was smooth... didnt go up or down too much...

The one I brought... it has 'off' days... I have noticed that in the summer heat it was not so noisy but it wasnt even that cold today and it sounded a bit like a diesal... like something wanted to fall apart... think it was from the engine...

Any ideas? Its been well serviced... sure I floored it a bit in sports mode but nothing else... gave it a full service.

yeah it's gotta be an auto box on the K12 one of those variomatic jobs. on the 1.3 old school number. over and out. H

sorry i mean't to say K11 - i used to drive a Glx French left hand drive J-reg. they got the bubble shape a bit earlier o'er there. do you know the japs modelled the classic micra rear end on an elephant's butt no less!! mo-fos

Arnold - Nissan Oil and changed every 6 months. Do you reckon GTx would be better?

I dont know tbh, but i know on my k10 when the oil is low or crap, the engine's very loud until i fill her up with decent stuff. Nissan oils are probably something decent :)

I'm ruling low oil out as I changed the oil filter and poured in about 3.0 litres. Was going to go for 3.2 but it looked fine on the dip stick

It may not be the engine, have you checked around the Manifold?

With the engine running just run your hand around the manifold, feeling for any "air" leaks!

My m8s just got a Vectra and the engine is extremly loud due to a hole in the manifold gasket!

The CG10 engine should run rather quietly, mine does anyways...well once it's warmed up!!

Found the problem and it was dangerous / stupid... the two hooks that bolt the battery down... with nuts... and that plate going over the battery... were loose... and **** me the batt could have fallen at any time and caused a fire... lucky I retrieved one hook... the other was still on but loose... and it was dangling about hitting God knows what... the plate had fallen down in the engine bay... Halfords will pay for this!!! I would have done it myself but they had a free bat fit and take ur old one away offer on... bastads!!!

LMAO, it made me remember an old mk2 escort that had a terrible rattle that turned out to be a loose headlight, it took me weeks to find it.
