Almera airbox

Hi everyone got a hold of an Almera air box and there is a little chamber above the intake on the lid does this make it quieter if so can I remove it ?

Yes makes it quiter and yes can be removed

another question is it worth advancing the timing at all? when i changed the air filter on my mini and then advanced the ignition it was night and day difference
