Aircon problem

I've just had my Micra SX Dci 04 reg serviced and my a/c hasn't been working since I bought the car a few months ago.
When I turn it on the a/c increases the revs slightly and I can hear a whining noise.. I asked the mechanic and he said it was the A/c turning on and that its normal for a small car... Is this true? does anyone else hear that noise when turning a/c on?

The mechanic checked the pressure and said it was fine, so why does my a/c not pump lovely cold air into my car and instead just blow out hot air?

any suggestions would be very helpful!

it might need re-gassing, i've not really dealt with ac before so thats the most i can suggest

thanks for a quick response. I don't really know much about cars, but if the pressure is fine, wouldn't that mean theres enough gas in it?

Honestly no idea, the only car I've ever had with ac was a 60plate hire car
