Being held on the Island of Mersea, near Colchester. It's further south than last year but the facilities are apparently alot better. Also being held at the end of August, and will run for three days instead of two!

There's one road in, one road out - and it suffers from the effects of the tide! The road can remain inpassable for several hours lol.
 
excellent, gives me more time to plan everything and I will also try and get the Wednesday onwards off in the week leading up to the show to help get everything together.

Firstly, we would like to thank you all for being so patient in waiting for a venue and date to be confirmed. We're really pleased to see that so many people agree that it’s right to get the venue right and find a great place to host JAE, rather than just rush to a decision. And to everyone who researched venues, sent in suggestions and did lot of legwork thank you very much.

Traditionally JAE has always been the start of the Summer Holidays and, despite thunder storms, floods and even a hurricane we have stuck to that date and accommodated TOTB by moving forward. Looking at the weather (this is the UK after all!) maybe July is never the right time? But we wanted it to be at a time when as many people could find the time and also when the whole family could come along – if they wanted! So, we have after much consideration agreed to move it to the last weekend of August. Not only is this better weather but its still school holiday time and should give us a much better event to round off the Summer. In addition to moving to the weekend of 29-31 August the event just got bigger and is now 3 DAYS of JAE!!! Thursday is now set up day and the activities start in earnest on Friday morning for those that wish to make it a full weekend away. We hope you like it!

JAE at Billing was fine at that time but JAE out-grew the location which is when we moved to Peterborough.This was a step in the right direction as it gave us a much bigger venue to allow in all the clubs who wanted to come to JAE but in moving to Peterborough we lost some of what made JAE so special so the task was on to find the perfect venue which would give the sparkle back to JAE and worked on the overall atmosphere of the event which we all know makes it different from any other in the year.

We have now found JAE's new permanent home and confirmed the venue and dates for the next 3 years.

JAE's new permanent home for 2008 and beyond will be at Mersea Island which just outside Colchester.

The show venue is over 60 acres and has a huge amount of potential for us, already catering for club and enthusiast shows all year round and with some amazing facilities on site - we're amazed we managed to miss it previously as its perfect for JAE! I will post up some pictures tomorrow of things to expect at the new location but, for now, let me just share with you SOME what we have to offer at JAE's new home:

Loads of parking on a totally secure site

Full Bar and off- sales

Japanese themed bar and special hot and cold SAKE bar

Large function room with permanent DJ facilities and stage

Outdoor hard standing marquee for live bands

Indoor trade area as well as outdoor pitches

Speedboat with inflatable banana ride experiences from the Beach

Yes, you read right - a beach!! - which is part of the site

Log cabins for families and groups with electric and heating as well as the vast camping areas as usual

Various planned activities such as inter-club Its-a-Knockout competitions ( inc 5 a side football ), some themed in Japanese endurance- Takeshi's Castle style!!

Full food village as well as a huge canteen which will be providing not only dinner for those who grow tired of junk food but also each morning the canteen will provide full English breakfasts, served up in true dinner-lady style - Previously an important detail which was missing from JAE for the morning after a night socialising

….. but best of all, the venue is really quiet and in the middle of nowhere so we can make as much noise as we like and go on for as long as we like. But if you’re worried about too much noise we have an area completely set aside as a quiet camping for those who may have families etc as the site is designed to cater for all, making it even more family friendly in certain parts of the site to ensure everyone has a great time.

I hope you'll join us in the excitement that the new date and venue will bring to JAE. It’s going to be just like the old days…………only better, longer and so much more to do....and by the beach!!!

More specific details will follow, for now, be safe in the knowledge we're back on track and firing on all cylinders better than ever before....we're now running on Iridium plugs!!!

seconed for the five aside team. also now it's over three days doe's that mean an extra day of the famos msc jae barbcue. ( espically with mike's excellent skills) however i did not catch the most important think that was missing from last years jae.

I agree it's a bit further if you live in scotland (100 mile round trip) but the convoy is a whole part of the event. JAE begins as soon as you leave your house imo! I'd have driven to it if it was located to north scotland.
 
The road is not as bad as claimed. People like to worry about nothing.
 
The longest the causeway is shut is never more than 90 minutes either side of high tide and on a Spring tide. We have the tide times so people will know well in advance. For the other shows that are there it's never an issue

im sick of every event moving further and further south.
i was planning on being ready for jae.
i will be ready, but im not going. and i suspect 90% of anyone WITH ANY SENCE AND ANY GUMPTION will boycot the jae.

i love the show. i was looking forward to it, but if its gonna move from a perfectly good location to one thats virtualy a full days journey away from 75% of the population, then i want no part of it.

why the hell should it move south?.... or even north?..........it should stay put.

if as said on the jae forum, 90% of people and clubs have allready dropped out, then who's gonna fill up this new 60acre site?

its a waste of a show, and im almost certain that it will flop.

i dont want it to, but i know it will.
 
This would have been my first JAE but I can't make it its too far a journey for me shame but hey that's the way things are :down:
 
only if you are from north of watford gap.

im not usualy one to complain about north south devide, but this is stupid, especialy when they say " a move to a more central site"

central for who?

im from grimsby. and clacton on sea is where my step dads parents used to live. that was a mamoth journey. set off at 5am to get there for 9am.

i cant do that, im sorry. and anyone who's more than 150miles away (which is too far anyway) are being left out.
 
over the next few days I'll see how many wish to attend and also how many would have done at the old location.

I wouldn't want to pull the MSC out of this event as we are already looking at doing so with Donny due to the total lack of show standard cars that a show like Donny demands, so to pull JAE is not what I want.

I will be considering other shows for the MSC to attend this year, but I still obviously want to continue with JAE as we have such a history with it and it's our main event of the year.

I know this event is far from central, it's more south eastern than central but it's a good old crack, and you'll eb missing out if you dont go. It's the same for some of use that go to Donny. People like myself, Ems, Arnold, James, Welly/Sparkie drive miles to go to car shows/meets.

It will be a great shame if people cant come to a great show just for the reasons of distance. The event being an extra day (and night of drinking far too much) makes up for it.

Won't be the same without you Antony, who's hair am I going to dye pink this year?
 
I'm not going, it's just too far for a weekender, 215 miles and 5 hours away on autoroute, that's £50 in fuel alone, it's all but totally discounted 90% of the country, it's just another 'it's grim up North' situation here imo, there is more of Britain past Northampton.
 
Surely having it further south is better than not having a JAE at all? and come on, it's not exactly far! I wouldn't be surprised if people from scotland pulled out, but Grimsby and even Manchester!!! Wow. Do you expect national meets of this calibre to fall on your door step? As Ollie said, about 8 of us used to drive from south coast up to Donny, and JAE is a much better event 500 times over.

All jap - Amazing atmosphere - New venue with better facilities. JAE is what the MSC is about, you just have to be there to be part of it! It only happens once a year. The only people losing out in this protest of distance is yourself! Whoever does go, will have an amazing time no doubt.

You have 8 months to save up the money to cover the cost of extra fuel, which in a Micra, is probably a tank or less!
 
It's not about having it on my doorstep, Britain may only be a little place in the grand scheme of things, but having a meet of this type which is supposed to be national would be better served by having it more central to the nation rather than all the way down in Colchester, it may be 215 miles from me which is reachable i suppose, but how about car enthusiasts from Scotland, I'm sure there are many fine Jap modified cars North of the border more than 400 miles away that will only see this as an unreasonable distance to travel.
 
Sonic it's totally up to you. Anyway, people shouldn't decide they're not going because someone else might have to travel a bit further. What if these people still want to come? The fact we've had scottish members and even Mik from Germany come over for JAE, shows that distance is just irrilevant. Fuel on a K10 = Cheap. Probably take an extra hour both ways - not much when you get an extra day there.

I'm sure the JAE organisers did the best they could, with the available locations and timescale. I wouldn't be surprised if people are just using the distance as an excuse not to come! Especially when it's 8 months away. I could understand not wanting to go if they switched venue a month before it's meant to start!

haha, ive still got the photo's..lol :laugh: :laugh:

it was an awesome event last year, and at a showground used all the time by the bike show BMF rally and such.
i struggled to drive the distance too and from the last jae, but i enjoyed it. the distance when compared to driving the the nurburgring is pitifull. but to have a national event in the south of the country and then call it central? it just doesnt make sence.

whats wrong with all the other show grounds and facilities in central england?

the orginisers obviously didnt want to travel as far this year. so they moved it closer to home........ so why is it we now have to travel further?


i just dont agree with the move. its a bad decision and i cant honestly see as many people there in 08 as were in 07.

we shall see what the year brings as i may not even own a micra if it doesnt pass its mot...lol:laugh: :laugh:

Sorry man but where did you drag this bit of 'information' from? The distance from pretty much all the JAE organisers houses to Mersea island is about 10 miles different to EoE.

Like Arnold said I'm amazed that people complain about the distance, okay it's not ideal, but after what's happened we're lucky there's a JAE at all!

To put it in perspective: When Donny used to be held at Doncaster, it was 210 miles for me, and even more for the likes of Welly and Arnold, yet we all made the journey without a complaint, and it's not even that good when compared to JAE. Grimsby to Mersea is 202 miles, so it's about the same sort of distance.

Considering it's now an extended weekend (Friday to Sunday with setup being on Thursday now) I think it's definately worth the extra drive.

Anyway, i've said what I've been meaning to say for a few days, and I'll leave it at that. If you guys don't want to come, at the end of the day it's your decision. But JAE is what you make it, the more that come, the better it is! I can easily say JAE is the best event of the year, and it would be a shame for people to "boycott" it just for the sake of a bit more driving.

well for me the distance is closer which is a bonus. however even if it was further away i would still go.

it is as kev said the big car show for the MSC of the year. and only the club can make that happen. and car shows for me are all about the people you go with and meet.

i've been to 2 jae and come rain shine and tornado's loved every mintue of both of them.

and if the travel is too much for to get there early on the day, here's a surrgestion that tried and tested and enjoyed by me from the ukhcc. drive down the day before stay in a hotel/ find a campsite resanoble close by. then go out in the eveing and have some fun before the show.so follow us southern softies speak too each other and arranges some conveys espeacial if you got walkie talke's.

First show day considering the weather has been fantastic, the MSC stand looked great with a very good attendance from the members. The New MSC gazebo lasted through the night......I hope lol! Although I think I'll be looking again for another one as the build quality is a bit pants lol

Pretty good turnout for the all the clubs really, the general public was down, which was to be expected with all the localised flooding in the midlands, but there still was a fair few people about. I expect today will be a lot busier.

The atmosphere around the stand was great, everyone was really enjoying the laid back, chilled out atmosphere we associate with JAE. Into the evening and we fired up the MSC BBQ under the gazebo as once again the heavens opened up us. Mike did a superb job on the BBQ considering the conditions. We ended up with an £80 bbq for £36..........bargain and it's bloody huge!

Only minus point so far, we paid £130 for a 1000w floodlight that was unfortunately not going to happen due to a pitch change and some arse driving over the sub station and pulling up loads of power lines, meant our new pitch couldn't have power, so off to tesco to get what we could to give any light.

Karoke was supplied by Ollie's carputer and when I left for home, everyone was having a great time, be interesting to see what happened over night lol!

Today will be pretty much more of the same, the msc trophies will be awarded, another club BBQ and more of the same atmosphere, hopefully the weather will be a little more kind to us today, but it didn't dampen the MSC spirit at all.

I would like to thank everyone who came yesterday, probably one of the best JAE's I've organised with all the members pitching in helping out with the gazebo, putting the banner up etc, much appreciated.

Right I'll stop rambling on and better get back to the show, here's a few teaser pics of the nights fun!

it couldn't stay put as EoE showground wouldn't/couldn't accommodate jae again. as mentioned above, other venues have been looked at, but obviously they're not as good as the chosen venue.
i do a 600 mile round trip up to stirling, scotland - 6-7hrs each way to see my dad for the weekend!
i once got stuck in traffic for 10hrs going to newquay for a long weekend.

i should be going to jae, only 4hrs and 175mile if i use the A1.

Does the Toyota gearbox in my vauxhall count? no?! I'll have to bring the Yammy then. If I've got enough dosh I'll try and convince myself to come down for at least one night...
 
I don't know if i'l have anywhere to put the monitor mate!! lol. unless i fix a nice big LCD to the rollcage! Can't guarantee that'l happen - or even if i have any ICE etc in the car. Still a bummer about yours tho.

here's the road on and off the island (taken from p11sr20, npoc), i don't think the south believe in bridges lol. doesn't look too bad at all. just a bummer if you arrive at the wrong time.

Yeah that looks like fun!! Everything should be ok if people schedule there arrival for when the water will be low. I'm sure it'l be fine - this isn't the first event being held on Mersea.
 
I'm still concerned about the distance purely coz I've only been drivng for a month or so, I am doing a run down to Cardiff next week (first time on a motorway without an instructor so kind of a baptism of fire) if that goes okay then I may reconsider going!! Watch this space lol!!
 
But it's in August, so plenty of time to practice and get experience on the roads. You could always convoy with someone or take a passenger if you're a bit cautious.
