wide ratio 5 spd gearbox question

I think most 1.2's had it because of the extra power and i believe they do 70 at 3000 rpm. I think that's what my super s did anyway!! cant remember.

Yep thats right, as i understand it,

on a wide ratio 5 speed, the first 4 are the same ratio as the 4 speed gearbox with an extra "overdrive" gear as 5th. 70mph = 3400 I think.

the short ratio 5 speed is different ratios from the 4 speed gear box, and gets lower top speed i believe.

Someone will correct me if im wrong

the long ratio has a lower top speed, it goes faster in fourth than fifth because 5th is too long. go for the close ratio box there much better for acceleration and top speed.

this is with estimated speeds with 195/45/15 inch wheels at 6000rpm

5 speed close ratio gearbox.

1st 27.3 MPH
2nd 47.6 MPH
3rd 70.4 MPH
4th 90.6 MPH
5th 109.6 MPH

5 speed Long Ratio Gearbox

1st 29 MPH
2nd 50.6 MPH
3rd 78.7 MPH
4th 107.6 MPH
5th 137.4 MPH

im after a long ratio box for when i go on holiday down cornwall, so i dont what to end up going mad with the exhaust noise and mpg

Sammo

Although the gear ratios are the same, I think the final drive ratio is different between the 4 and 5 speed box. This will make the overall ratios different. If you see what I mean?
