Weird Electrical fault please help urgent!!!!

Hey guys,

right my father has a W reg micra, up until today its been relatively trouble free. The speedo, fuel gauge, temperature gauge, heated rear window and indicators have stopped working. The hazard warning lights do work as do the headlights. The actual instrument cluster lights up still too!!???

would really appreciate any ideas and help because he cant drive without indicators really! :down:

also i have checked some fuses but they all seem fine to me!!!

It could be a problem with the ignition switch as all of those things will only work when the key is at a certiain position?

thanks for the replies, i have checked the fuses but they are all sound. The ignition switch would make most sense too, although if there was a problem with it surely we wouldnt be able to start the car up?? also noticed the reverse light does not work either!!! :suspect:

there may be some larger fuses in the engine bay, have you checked those ?

i assume you have a 2000+ k11 because the older ones where mecanical.

all those problems seem to be ignition faults as the reverse light and cluster only turn on on the second key possition. but it still starts which suggests that only half the system is working.

there are some high guage wires running into the back of the fuse box and between the fuse box in the engine bay and the battery, if one of these is loose or corroded then you could have a poor connection..

does the interior light work? and head unit? and both headlights?

yeah its a 2000 model K11, all other lights work, interior lights, dash lights, hazard lights etc etc i have checked every single fuse now and not one is blown including ones inside the engine compartment!! grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!grr

Oh Relay ?

Hi GTtdiRCT,

Swap out the "Ignition Relay" located in the passenger fusebox - it seems to account for all the symptoms apart from the heated rear window.

Micra wiring fault

If your micra has a single plug at the back of the instrument cluster then go to a scrapyard and get another instrument cluster. Mine lost petrol, speedo and temp gauges all at once and I sent the cluster to a "specialist" advertising on the net who told me that they all worked and "only" charged me £70-00+ for his service but when I found a local auto electrician to check the car he was sure that the cluster was faulty and I found one in a yard for £45-00, this proved the piont and all is well.
