Timing chains

I was chatting to this guy that owns a 1995 series 1 Super S. He's had it for a few years now and we cross paths occasionaly although he's not interested in being a member.

Anyway,at 230,000k's his timing chain let go, busted motor.
The thing was when I asked him how long had it been making noises he told me there had been none, no rattles, no strange noises that might have given warning. Nothing, just broke without warning.

Makes me think I maybe should be getting mine changed now I am up to 280,000K's.

Eww. Thanks for the warning. I would be heartbroken if my engine did that. I might change them at 100,000Km just because I can't afford for my internals to go splat.
