Strange plastic part

I noticed on my Xreg. Micra a strange plastic part under the steering wheel which I haven't seen on other Micras.
Does it related with any disable controls or is something else?

its nothing lower steering colum down and it just rests on it earlier micras didnt have it

i stick maps on my one, couldnt find any other use for it.

No,the steering column doesn't touch the plastic.The column can move up/down just about 1 inch when release the lever which I think isn't normal.But it doesn't reach the plastic down moving.I think the column should move about 2-3 inches.
Do all facelift Micras have this plastic? The shelf underneath is unusable in that way.

I don't feel better,even opposite-I can't use the shelf there...
Nobody would put something extra without any purpose.
Do somebody knows any Nissan support service email where I can ask?

I'd say it has been added to protect your knees from the metal around the steering column in the event of a front end smash, it's no doubt in response to the results in an earlier NCAP test.

Initially I thought as you, that's why I asked somebody to confirm if all of facelift Micras has it or just mine.
I don't know about NCAP test,but 1275's opinion seems logical.
