My mate has a 360, it can do optical SPDIF output, he wants to run it through his PC setup, he has this motherboard A7N8X-E Deluxe, it can have an adapter to add coaxial spdif input but these aren't compatible (that I know of)

I've suggested a proper external amp but he's not for that, he wants to just use the setup he's got.

Suggestions?

He can get a optical to cable converter. not that expensive.

How you set yours up James?

That gizmo shows in (optical) and out (coax) which is wrong way round for my mate or can that be ignored?

oh cool, the FAQ in your link gives info on product to work the way he needs

Next question then, his PC has the coax output built in but a connector is needed for input which he can not find, are they generic, it has 5 pins, (from left to right is 2 pins, 1 pin at bottom, then 2 pins)

oh wait, i'm confussing myself now, yours is right James isn't it

Right after reading your whole OP and not just skimming it, I get what you're trying to do now. Both my PCs that have had SP/DIF haven't had an input too, so I probably can't help much with that bit, although I did have to wire up the SP/DIF out myself on my new PC. The motherboard manual tells you which pins do what
