Sid-strip problem

The previous owner of my car had attached the right side-strip of the car on with double-sided sticky foam so i thought i'd leave it on until it inevitably starts hanging off, which happened today.

I've taken it off and the majority of the foam but i'm now left with stubborn bits and residue which i'm hoping some WD40 will remove.

What would be the best way to get it back on? Will it be ok to use a strong adhesive and if so will i need to sand the ares down first?

I can take a picture and put it up if it helps. Thanks

i removed mine with a hair dryer with a gentle heat so as not to bubble the paint and bug and tar remover worked a treat or even a bit of petrol then wash with warm soapy water

Yeah petrol & credit card/filler applicator works & cheaper than any little tins of stuff you'll buy.I use thinners, same price as petrol. You can stick the moulding back on with bathroom sillicone, good because it's easily removable if need be.No need to key the area up,it'll stick to anything.Hold it in place with tape till it goes off...
