Should Unplugging the MAF Throw a CEL?

Long story short I had the plug to the MAF unplugged while doing some work. I started the car up again afterward to test what I'd done and it was running fine. I then realised that the cable was still unplugged. On plugging it back in it ran the same, however when it was unplugged there was no check engine light.

I remember when I was diagnosing a MAF fault on my girlfriend's old Corsa B, unplugging it would throw a CEL. Could I have unwittingly discovered a MAF fault or does it not throw a light when it's unplugged on the Micras?
