Non captive springs

Hey guys! Just wondering roughly how many coils you can cut before your car becomes non captive? Or does it depend on the spring size? Thanks in advance!

You're the chappy who bought the Kilen springs right? Fronts you could only take 30mm off the total length, this was all they needed compressing to get the top mount on the shock...I would take half that off at most as you want some preload. Measure it I'd say at most that's half a coil. Rears didn't compress that much either as you'll notice half the spring is dead coils tightly wound. Again barely any compression needed to get these in. I personally wouldn't remove any length from the rear spring as I could feel it wasn't THAT captive with the shock back on. Front like I said 15mm off total length.
