Nissan Micra K11 Steering problem

Hi, can someone please help. The steering on my car feels hard when making a left turn as compared to making a right turn.
I have checked the ball joints and the steering rack ball joint all appear to be ok. If I jack the car up and then turn the steering it does not feel heavey. I guess that is because there is no load.

Been told that I may need a new steering rack. Which can be very expensive.

Anyone any ideas please.

Thanks

power steering?

If so, then yes, probably need a new rack.

Actually even if its not a power assisted rack and there's no alignment/tyre issues then you will likely need a new rack.

And they're not that expensive or hard to do :)

YOM thanks for your reply. Can't these power steering racks be repaired or re-conditioned??
Any known reason why this should happen. My car as only covered 49,000 miles.
Thanks

Yes they can be reconditioned. Trick is to find someone who will do it for you. With micras being so common in the UK i don't see why that wont be a problem.

The reason it is stuffed is probably due to lack of fluid changes. Or using the wrong fluid. Or changing the type of fluid.

Pick one of them. :)
