Nissan Micra Acenta 1.4 Auto MPG + Electric Mirrors Question

Hello All,

6 months ago we purchased the above Micra (5 door version) 2008 with 4,000 miles on the clock. The car was bought thinking that it would be fuel efficient and we were originally going to go for the 1.2 auto but the MPG figures were the same for the 1.4 so decided on the latter.

The car has now clocked around 8,000 miles. The MPG we are getting is around 25-26mpg (according to the digital display).

It is only achieving around 200-220 miles from a full tank fully loaded until you see the liquid at the point of refill. We have switched off the air con & it hasn’t made much difference. It is mainly town driving with start/stop traffic. I was wondering if anyone had a similar car so that I could gauge whether this was normal.

We don't use overdrive or the manual gear 1 or 2 just the auto setting.

The other question is around the electric mirrors which adjust okay, but when we press the demist button that clears the rear screen, the mirrors appear not to be heated... should they be? I have checked the fuses and nothings a miss, during the winter period we rely on heated mirrors.

Cheers,
Sparky

I have a manual 1.4 in my micra, and my dad has the same manual 1.4 block in his Nissan Note, we both get around to 40-45mpg so there could be something amiss there. I really doubt the automatic gearbox would cut the MPG in half.

As for the heated mirrors, I think only the foreign Micras got heated mirrors, your demist button clears the rear windscreen and that only!

Thanks for the reply Tchaaa. It is indeed quite poor and I was expecting much better from the car. I have been a devoted nissan fan and so far its been a let down on the MPG & the Mirror :(

Where would I go about getting the car diagnosed, not sure apart from a main dealer or some kind of specialist?

All electric but no heat. That’s really poor.

I also have a manual 1.4 (2003 SE) and get about 35mph with a heavy right foot, about 300-320 a tank. Sadly my mirrors aren't heated either - I've been meaning to look into whether they're an option as I mid that from my primera.

Your low mpg could be caused by many things, I'd start with a full service to rule out a blocked air filter and bad oil or filter. After that it could possibly be brakes binding. The cars only doe about 1500 a year and they tend in my experience not to respond well to sitting about.

The owner prior to purchase paid for a "gold" service done in march this year. Wopping £248! Labour @ £169.10 Main dealer. grr

Has the oil filter & mobil1 5w/30 fully synthetic oil on it. Will check out the air filter when the car is back tonight. My mate has one of those snapon readers (not up to date) but hopefully it may show something.
