This is my Nissan Almera GTi Blog

You all know what they are so i don't need to explain

here she is:

i picked the car up from London a few weeks back, and since have been paying it all up. now i can start to play about with it slightly more, however with another almera GTi also coming onto the scene for one hundred pounds i have found myself with two...

This meaning double the work load...first off to the second one, i bought this car for... 100 quid... with a ding in the front, and a "rattle in the bottom end" it was, and is more now a steal. My self and a friend checked this all out once we got it back home, only to find piper cams in it, and the rattle wasn't the bottom end, but the casing where the crank shaft spilt...50 quid part! just a bit of labour... anyway so i decided i don't really want another almera GTi and it's not in fantastic condition so lets take the engine out. (To be done within next month)

Moving on this car also has a full stainless steel powerflow exhaust system and a 4 2 1 manifold....to be fitted this week. this needs some good old elbow greese and stainless steel polish!!!

So, looking round the car, i have also got some LUKE Harnisses, a fuel pressure switch to boost it to 46 psi an induction kit, obviously the whole car, couple of speakers and Pi lowering springs to drop it to 40 mm, some JAP headlight covers... and alot of rubbish.

this is all going to take time though, however in the process of this my splitter was cracked and often flapped about...until.. going along the motor way it came clean off and went under a merc. so i thought, i'll get another phase one GTi splitter can't be so hard... it was, so decided to create one, using a laguna splitter until i run into one... this is the outcome.

so thats it, so far thats whats been happening... any comments welcome.

iam sure i have seen that exhaust on an almera gti somwhere (remember the painted grey xs manifold and that back box), who did you buy it off?

it's not a painted manifold... and i bought it down south mate

+ it's just super manky... and got covered in antifreeze :|

oh lol...looks anthersite :S the laguna splitter doesnt look as bad as i thought it would :) get the piper cams chucked in! shouldnt be far off the bhp of tommos GTI...i belive he is running piper cams, hot shots header, and cat back exhaust?

the splitter actually surprisingly was a straight fit, no bend... wierd

but, yea cams are going in... along with fuel switch... then i have a spare SR20 engine...and a spare micra haha

wouldnt bother with the stainless polish dude. In 3 weeks it'll be crap again, and its too hard to get every bit of it.

Dont buy piper cams !! they knock off bhp lol

Also that manifold looks like the standard one + downpipe also looks standard...

looks nothing like a standard manifold or downpipe...its deffo an uprated one.

and how do you know pipers loose performance? you would need it mapped to get the best out of them anyway...

you clearly don't know what your talking about... try coming back when you do?

good shout!

Good call mate

you would need it mapped to get the best.. yes. however there is still a gain in before a map has been done.

have you advanced your timing yet? that gives a bit more power.

There was no need for that.

The only problem I could see with Piper cams is the powerband may now be outside your limiter (depending on the cams) and the mapping won't be taking full advantage of them, but I wouldn't have imagined they'd loose power.

Other than that, good car for the price!

There is proof on the almera owners club that piper cams lost a member around 1.5 bhp!!

Yes a map would make a difference but the amount of people who pay money for cam very rarely get a remap!

That manifold looks the same as the standard one in shape, it might be slightly bigger bore, but tbh it looks like the same layout...

Think i'll leave this thread well alone if your gonna be like that!

Just for comparisons sake, here's the "standard" style perfomance manifold most SR20s get, this one cost me £70:

I can see similarities there!

Thats a bargin James, looking at buying one of them off the bay for around £130 delivered

Just for the record, as people think i dont know what im on about, i own 2 Almera gti phase 2s

And if people think i ment "totally standard" i was really talking about the style of the pipes, they are the same...!

Nice looking car, shame about the crap attitude.

tbh it's just frustrating how people waltz around proclaiming things they don't even know, or understand. it clearly isnt a standard maniford of pipe. but i see what he means about similarity.

It's just the same thing just people telling me how something is when i know!

this is meant to be a socialising website, not a slating one.

Curtis, i apologise if i came across as rude or angry, to me it's just broken record syndrom with too many forums

curtis: Sure the "style" is the same, because its a cast multibranch on as standard, but that one looks very much like the Jperformance/XSpower/whoever else produces this exact same manifold.

Just because one engine lost power with piper cams, doesn't mean another will. There could be other differences with the engine, amount of engine timing, exhaust options, intake design. Plus there's more then 1 profile of pipe cam, this could be a hotter or milder cam, which may produce better or worse results then other members. Basically, since he got them for cheap, and the effort required to fit them isnt much, its worthwhile shotting them in and seeing what happens. It can always be reversed.
