Molly is no longer ready

We had a great day yesterday at a done point were looking at a top 30 finish. Unfortunately stage 7 was cut short when the rod came out the side of the block.

Still, it had been fun. Here's a wee clip of us getting it a wee bit wrong

Damn, sorry to hear that. Any idea of what rpm you were doing when it went? Any prior symptoms or was it just a sudden occurrence?

You're one of a growing number of people highlighting potential limits with the CG engines that many road users ever experience.

It will be interesting to see the engine stripped down and inspected to see if the failure mode can be pinpointed.

Hope you're back up and running soon :)

We had spent all day sitting between 5500 and 6800 with the limiter bouncing. The driver reckoned he heard a "whistle" and was about to comment when the engine let go. It was probably near the limiter when it happened. We will be stripping it to see what happened but that may be a few weeks. The reality is that the engine was a 70000 mile scrapyard special and probably was just too tired.

Road cars simply don't get the abuse that competition cars do. It's impossible to drive like we do on an open road, so the engines are treated much more gently.

Ah well. I think a good clean rebuilt standard 1.3 with a wee head skim may be what we do.
