Micra for my Niece !!

Hello everyone! I am a member of a number of car owner forum sites, I have found them to be a real life line for owners who can do a degree of DIY.
This time it's a little different as the car will be owned be my 'niece' - Lucy, but I know
who will be looking after it.
The car it a 1999 Nissan Mirca 'Inspiration', 998cc petrol, manual, 3 door, with 86k on the clock.
Early for question, but, how often should the cam belt be changed ?

Welcome to the site Richard. The Micra uses a timing chain which should last the life of the engine instead of a cam belt. :grinning:
I hope your niece enjoys owning one!

Yeah, chain driven engines :grinning: its unlikely the timing chain should ever break. If it does it'll probably down to a neglectful owner.

If it does ever break, its easier just to swap the engine and cheaper :grinning:

Many thanks, anything else I should look for, the car needs a 'bloody good clean', however I know the mechanic who has looked after the car for the last 4 years, he reports no problems.

Rust is an issue  Front crossmember, sills, arches and under the boot carpet on the seatbelt mounts
