Main points to look for?

Apologies if this has been covered, I'm generally useless at these forum things...

I'm going to look at a M-plate 1.3LX this week, just wondered if there's anything in particular to be looking out for - any points specific to this model year?
I'm a mechanic by trade, so I know my way around a car, and I'm used to the oily bits of Micras. IIRC my cousin's L-plate K11 had rotten sills, is this a common problem? How about any hidden rot?

Cheers in advance :)

(I used to be on here, a long long time ago, when I had my '89 K10... glad to see its still hugely active...)

Front crossmember, rear of the sills are the main issues. Heater fan only working on 2 speeds - easy to fix but good if you want to negociate a discount.

Bits wrong with mine

Hi Pete,

Here's a list of things that was wrong with mine when I acquired it - not necessarily the 'usual' things, but could be useful in negotiating a discount:

Head gasket - water in the oil, oil in the water....

Rear box rotted out - at weld near offside rear wheelarch

Door hinges dropped - not much can do about that

Window winder (manual) failed - removed and bashed with large hammer

Gearchange coupling bearing siezed (stiff L-R movement in gear lever)

Dash illumination bulbs blown - easy to fix

Switch illumination bulbs blown - cheap to fix but fiddly

Side light bulbs blown (not easy to see unless ignition is off (dim dip masks problem).

Rear washer connection leaking inside car - easy to fix with an O ring

Front washers blocked.

Apart from that, not much else left !

Hope this helps

Cheers

Graeme
