lightweight

This week my lovely K11 has been on a severe diet. in fact, from its original 800Kg kerb weight, i've pared it down to just 752Kg!

its not easy, can be a rigt pain to get some parts out, but heres the list

1) spare wheel - 11.6Kg
2) rear seat belts and buckles - 2.59Kg
3) handbrake base and shroud plastics - 170g
4) rear light inner shroud - 140g
5) front door speakers - 940g
6)head unit - 1.22Kg
7) driver side door card and associated handle mechanism - 3.92Kg
8) boot and door inspection panels - 1.54Kg
9) spare wheel cover - 520g
10)miscellaneous trim parts, bolts removed, brackets from boot floor, carpet protectors and parcel shelf - 8.36Kg
11) jack - 1.61Kg
12) rear seat bench and split upper - 14.7Kg

theres a few other bits ive got counted up as well.

my car is a 1275, supposedy producing 75bhp new. in theory if the engine has lost no power in the 80,000 miles its done (obviously impossible) then at the current weight its pulling 99.65bhp/ton! :)

What was it before hand, I'm pretty sure the 1litre doesn't way much more than yours standard :S maybe I'm getting the wrong info.

Why has the head unit gone?! i mean if your just tracking it then it makes sense...
But for just 2kg you could have a sound system...
Rear wiper/wiper motor and cover can go too :p

could also try removing: roof lining, sunroof, dashboard & plastic covers, passenger seat, bonnet, grill, metal panel shield thats in front of the manifold, splash guards, all door window mechanisms (replaced with static perspex windows), rear wiper & washer system

many stuff can be removed for free depending on how much you wish to sacriface on comfort, features & safety and depending on if its a track/dirt car or public driving car (e.g. lights & horns)

then you can get into the spending of lightweight replacement parts such as fitting & relocate a drycell battery, ultralight flywheel, carbonfibre/fibreglass panels

Franks k11 is an extreme example of weight reduction i know of

75bhp @ 752kg + 60kg (person) = 812kg = 17.59seconds 1/4 mile.
Need to increase those horses and shed more weight! :D

well i wanna go as low as possible. today ive stripped more stuff out of it including the spare wheel, all the side trim panels from the back. i've been weighing everything really accuratly, and ive managed to get a bit of a result! 749.55Kg hypothetically, the car now has over 100bhp/ton, coming with 75bhp as standard. i know its lost quite a few of those though, as its got 83K miles on it. tomorrow the passengers door card comes out, the wiper and washer system from the back. for now i want to keep the front pretty standard. i'll strip it and cage it fully when ive got the funds, and obviously it needs bucket seats and harnesses as well. plastic windows are the first thing on the list, at least all the sides and maybe even sunroof. when that happens, the window electrics can come out. im also thinking i need some form of rope for a door catch, as i think it would be quite funny!!!

Top job, weight removal is the best way to maximise what the K11 has :) Keep us posted on progress, a detailed weight of items is actually REALLY handy information. I have removed a lot of those items a long time ago and have absolutely no idea what any of them weight lol.

ok guys/girls. ive got a massive spreadsheet of all the weight reductions.

I'm poor at the moment, so ive got minimal fuel in it (3L max) so can remove 39L (39Kg) of weight from the car.

I have also changed the horrible nasty momo gear shifter for something much more stylish, an offcut of wood!

AAAARGH just formatted the whole thing and its ignored it all! if you want the proper spreadsheet, just post your email addy on here or something.....
