K11 Ignition barrel

Hi all,
My other half has owned his K11 for 5ish years now, with very few problems. However, now its becoming VERY difficult to get the key out of the ignition, and I think it's time to get a new barrel.

Is it possible to get an exact replica barrel direct from a dealer (stealer?), as I did with an old Ford Escort for a mate, or is it a choice of 2 others ideas (1. get another barrel, get the key coded by Nissan, and have a car with 2 diff keys. OR 2. Replace the whole set of locks and ECU etc).

It's on a W plate with NATS, just a 1.0 petrol. Not being nasty to it's but it's no spring chicken, so obviously would like the best price job. I'm not averse to doing the work myself, but want to make sure it's do-able.

Incidentally the car is just standard locks, no central or remote locking. Are we able to code the keys, or is it a dealership job.

All opinions very gratefully received.

its just the little black plastic surround (aerial) thats coded rog, but have you tried some oil down the lock first ? :)

We've tried everything under the sun, it won't budge. This latest attempt needed about 35 tries to get the key out.

I've even suggested breaking the key off in the lock and starting it with a screwdriver, but you can imagine how that went down with the other half!

If it's only the plastic collar which is coded, what is the implication for new keys? Since surely a new collar would not match the coding on the ecu? SO presumably will need to use the old collar and get the new keys coded?

i think the cheapest solution would be a barrel and key from the scrappies, and swap your red chip into that key :)

All sorted - got my dealer to supply a new barrel which had been rolled to the original spec. £200 later and all is sorted, did the fitting myself.

A good deal imo, and faultless service from WLMG Nissan in High Wycombe.
