Interesting Conversation in Pub

Was at the pub tonight, as usuall, and was talking to mate about the handling of the car since i got the coilovers on. So as i was blabbing on, so random guy turns round to me and says, "Not meaning to be cheeky, but why aren't you spending all this money on a decent car? Why a Micra?".
WELL!
After getting over it, i proceded to tell him that the whole point of doing your car up is to be different (true?), and up here, you don't see any modded Micras (None actually), so thats why i choose to do mine.
Then he went on to say that they were bad cars, and all this, but i was tryin to explain to him that there is sooo much pontential in them, but no, arrogant prick just carried on slating them.
He started going on about something about Corsas, but wasn't paying much attention to him at this point. He couldn't really see my point, and that kinda annoyed me. Why is there such a bad reputation for the Micra? They're good, cheap, reliable litte cars.
Grr, just annoyed.
Anyone else get that?

It happens, even though i have a rare and special Micra. People put the car down before they even see it, that normally changes when they see the car and we talk about the performance potential of a Cg13 engine.

hey mate i got it off my mates all the time theyve got astras clios novas fiestas etc and they all griefed my micra super s but once they relised my micra was faster than there cars they now want one f*****g mugs

The Micra doesnt have a bad reputation, it has a bad image. It was advertised as a city car and thats why it sold well, many old people and girls drive them hence the image. I didnt mind the fact people thought it was a granny car, I knew otherwise.

my mates take the pi$$ too however its far cheaper to run than there expensive turbo charged Subaru's and RS Escorts etc, and now its got the super s kit on, they're now saying it looks good too!!

You could also start banging on about the micra being the first production car to have a turbo! (i believe thats true), also a success when it comes to rallying, and being jap, they're extremely reliable.

Its sad i know, but if you wanted to impress the nova/clio/corsa type of people, take them to pod and out drag them, and they will be impressed im sure!

..however people can *always* come up with a reason as to why "their" car is better than "your" micra, because they started the argument and wont want to lose.

I agree with Moss. I think the Micra is a superb car. From the early ones up to *ahem* the late(ish) ones. Nissan produced some great cars they just advertised them to oldish/boring drivers who will never use the cars to their potential. Having said that though, they are indeed fabulous run-arounds too.

all too familiar topic with me, Ive had this a few times myself.
but never by any clio nova etc owners. Just by a few mates n family with big mercs and lexus's.

Aside from the occasional rattles (K11) and wot not the Micra is a gr8 car. no doubt! Had 3 in my family, 2 k10's and this one you see here on the left. Although afraid to say it stops here tho as K12 aint me cup of tea. But this K11 should last us a good 4 more or so years, possibly longer.

Nah comon, dont be confused now. We all know Corsa's are perfect little reliable cheap cars which are tunable to at least 200bhp in a few hours...
Dont compare them to micra's, we all know the micra will loose instantly :laugh:

well it was slagged, but curently matt is selling his fiesta si, gettin a super s, i have 2 other people considering it! they cant believe how cheap to mod, nippy, and cheap to buy they are!

the micra is my first car so i can't really have an opinion on other cars. but at work i drive alot of hired cars. (most recent being a citron zara picaso and a vaxhall mareva *spelling)

and the engine bays have no room for upgrades and the dash is all one bit so it's more difficult to take apart.

they are packed with electronic crap that slows it down and the clutch,brakes,steering are all power asisted so your not really driving the car.

the only car i have been in that i like more than my micra is my dads cobra. and that is because it's a kit car and you can do what you like with it.

comes apart nice and easy and loads of space in the engine bay.

the guys at work are always slagging of micras and they know nothing about cars!

My mates and people in school dont understand why im spending all this money on a micra, and why im fixing it up instead of stripping it, selling the parts, and buying a "Decent Car". But most of these people dont hav cars, some not even a provisional licence so i just try explain to them whats so great about them. They ask me how much ive spent on it so far and when i say 3 and a half grand over the past 7 months they ask me y i didnt buy a newer car for 3 and a half grand, and the answer is simple, 7 months ago i didnt HAV 3500!! I HAD 50 euro and 4500 for insurance, so i came across the micra for 50 quid (family discounts ), perfect nick, low milage, ripe for modifying so i jumped at the opportunity! I had just turned 17 and cud now drive and i cudnt wait any longer so i bought the car, ordered the stereo and the rest is history!

Im proud of my car coz i paid for it, i paid for all of my insurance, i pay for the petrol, tax, NCT (MOT), modifying it and never got anything, not even a tenner from my parents for petrol! Im not one of these people where "Mammy and Daddy" pay for everything and im proud of dat! Also, driving as soon as u turn 17 and paying 4500 for insurance is something to be proud of too

i got alot of stick from my mates who love vauxhalls, one drives a corsa and the other a nova, there both brothers, all i got from them is. what u buy a micra for ther crap.....shot them both down as the nova just gets munched by my car, and wel the corsa i can beat to 65 but after that wel......but now they both no that the micra is not a little shed with no speed

i borrowd 300 off my mum and dad to buy the car and the deposit for insurance, i already add 500 for the car.

but its all paid back to them now

When I first passed people took the pi$$ but when they realised the miles it did with a tank of fuel, and that it didn't fall apart after a while like a Renault of equivelent age.
Also alot of friends were jealous of such a helpful car enthusiast forum!!!

can you blame people though. most people who drive micras are over 60. i was following a old woman driving one who decided to do 20 in a forty and try and do a u turn on a mini roundabout (needless to say she failed). i own and adore my micra but the image that comes with owning one aint good.

oh yeah i believe the first car to come with a turbo charger as standard was the saab 900 turbo.

After being on this site and speaking to a few other people I didnt think the Micra had an image problem.

Then I went to buy a KandN I-kit. I went into the shop with my partner - we were both buying one. He asked about his first for a MR2, the lad in the shop was most helpful and chatty giving advise about de-cats and alsorts. Then I asked for a price for a micra one. The look on his face, he just looked disgusted, a girl wanting to upgrade a lowly micra. I got awful service and no chat. I only bought it from them in the end as they were cheaper than everwhere else. I was so annoyed.

I also get funny looks in the pub. People seem to think I would be better off spending the money on getting a boob job and sitting in my partners MR2 looking pretty, instead of doing up a micra. Well no. My micra will one day be faster than his MR2....... well I can dream cant I?

Lol! End of the day Micras are pretty rapid for what they are and have an excellent rally pedigree, but it is percieved as a girl's/OAP's car, I like it, makes people more shocked when they get left behind
