idle rev drop HELP

hey guys,

when i trun the ignition on the car turns on fine, apart from a couple of slight rev changes which is normallish.
but if i drive within the first 5 minutes of first turning the key, the car either turns off completely or revs so low that the cd player turns off and feels like it's about to stall

Sounds like alternator or battery or maybe bad earth
