Gear knob return spring

Hi all,

I seem to have a noisy gearbox but have noticed it's become a bit intermittent and when I turn the engine off and wiggle the gear stick from left to right I can hear a slight clanging noise and also the gear knob does not return back to the centre. Could this noise be the return spring thats broken and not a warn gearbox bearing as I originally thought???
If it is the return spring how do I access it to check/remove???

you have to get under the car steve, (in a safe manner) and remove a heatshield iirc (all my heatshields were binned :wasntme

My return spring has snapped cba to change it right now lol

as hooded said his is broken around 9pounds from the dealer i as for him haha remove heat shield around 5 10mm bolts

Heat shield comes off easy enough, it was an easier fix than i thought, once you get the spring off you can just create a fresh bend in it and reconnect it. Ive had to do it three times now including on my Primera lol.
