fuel pump mystery...

car's (2000 K11 facelift) been running fine then this morning it wouldn't start.

called RAC out. he reckons fuel pump is on the blink. he checked relay, checked wiring...all fine.
only hums (2 secs) when key turns engine off.
pump doesn't run when ignition turned on or cranked.

is this a common problem with easy fix or new fuel pump job?

Relay fault, they look ok but cause this issue. I re-wired ours via a switch from the battery.
