Hey guys, just a sort of crazy idea I'm working on with all my spare time in the desert...

I've already seen a really clean job of a custom dash with screen built in, maybe it was Marshals (cant really remember)..

It has had me hooked on the idea ever since I saw it. I'm planning on doing the same thing when I get home to Australia, with some different sculpting of the dash mind you. I plan on putting a 7" galaxy tab 2 into a built up dash recess, at a decent viewing angle for the driver, with the charger cable discretely placed through the dash (still drawing models to see how this could be done with subtle style, and not look gimmicky) and plugged into the back of my head unit (which is 5v usb2 and should charge the tablet whenever the stereo is on correct?)

I've already got a phone caddy for the car that fits in that pointless spare bottom din area of the centre console and charges the phone as well. Basically I took out the cigarette lighter (no smokers :) and dropped it down to the bottom din, then plugged the lighter hole and put a no smoking sticker on it haha, and the caddy has been siliconed into place fairly well, plugged into the lower cig lighter.

With a 3gig data plan on phone and the tablet set to auto connect to my phone wifi and bluetooth on it's gonna be a nice handsfree and net/roadmap setup for the car haha), and bluetooth hands free speaker on the sunvisor...

Thats how I'm gonna go with it right now, the only thing is, I wish they sold 5" tablets, or I may just end up getting a standalone 5" GPS and follow the same plan above, in place of the tablet...

Finally, the dash will be covered in black leather style vinyl. Any thoughts, comments or not so obvious mistakes I should be aware of ?

Yeah Tony, I kind of had that brainstorm on the treadmill this morning, I'm just tossing up if I should splurge on the HTC OneX, have to check the size specs of it, mind you I wont have to buy a supersize smart phone for another 3 months, likely another badass phone will be out.

Thanks though, I had forgotten they cater to extra large phone users :D

As I finally get home in the next couple days, and have almost three months of leave saved; I'm looking forward to getting started on all the work I have set up for myself...
