Brake Compensator Valve 1001 Micra Activ 1.0

The Lucas brake compensator valve on my wife’s Nissan Micra 1.0 Activ
(2001 and only 27000 miles) is leaking slightly from what appears to be either a breather or drain hole at the base of a rubber cover. I am looking to source a replacement and have been quoted well in excess of £400 by the local Nissan dealer.

Is this a common fault? Why is the part so expensive when compared to other makes of vehicles?

Can anyone assist in identifying an outlet for such a part or can it be purchased as OE item elsewhere?

r you certain it's leakin brake fluid there or is it just collected water?
has your brake fluid level been dropping over time.

mine use to have a leak round that area & pedal was spongy
wasn't sure were it was leaking from so i overhauled the device, still saw fluid leaking,
the cause turned out to be far worse in that one of the brake pipes been rubbing on some corner over time and caused the pipe to fail whilst i was pressing hard on brakes (car was SORN off the road at the time btw before restoration)

try lookin at wreckers, scrapyards, ebay or brake part specialists for replacements. maybe Brakes International?

i wouldn't try nissan yet unless ur absolutely out of options cos they charge n arm n leg.

for such a young low milage car, i never heard of them breakin

could try jackin up the rear, slide off the rubber cover to see the mechanism, ask someone to brake hard whilst you check if the valve is actually leakin

Thanks – Have discovered that LSUK (formerly Lucas) hold stocks of load/compensator valves for Micra’s up to 1997 models. I’m happy that it’s brake fluid and will probably look to source the part from 247 Spares or similar. Just need to ensure that it’s the right part for the year of manufacturer. I had no joy with Brakes International.

Can anyone else assist?

i have never come across any problems with those load apportioning valves i,m sure you,ll find a good one at a scrappie, or else get a seal kit for yours ?

Cheers - I will run the kit idea past my friendly mechanic. I didn't realise that this was still an option. Where do you go for such kits?

flighters

cylinder kits were widely available from motor factors, i,ve never done a l/a/valve tho ! try the main dealers ?

id go the scrapyard route myself if it turns out you need one, you can get then for a few quid...you only need to undo 3 bolts and just use cutters to slice through the 4 brake lines and it'll drop out (10min job if youre lucky).

actually id double check all your pipe connections as theres a good chance one may just be dripping brake fluid through...
