Blown Headgasket engine

Hi, Im looking at buying a 1.3 engine that ive been told has a blown head gasket. The engine is non coilpack and my 1.0l is coilpack so had planned on using the 1.0l head with 1.3 cams and the 1.3 block with crank pistons etc. What im wanting to know is could the extent of damage of the headgasket mean the engine is useless for what I want??

buying a broken engine and hoping it'll be cheap n easy to fix/use is abit of a pot luck gamble.

you need to question why the HG failed in the first place (head surface erroded by old coolant? warped head & block from overheating?) both would require machining costs.
if it was just a cheapo HG that had disintegrated, then the fire ring surface might be OK.
then you'll need to disassemble and check if the mating surfaces are perfectly smooth & flat especially at the fire rings.
