Audio connections

Hello people

bit of help required with fitting a stereo to a '94 1.0l.

Previous owner had removed factory unit, and spliced the wires onto a 'Kenwood' connector.

I have bought a Kenwood to fit, but noticed one of the cables (one to the battery) had pulled out of the plug. I have another kenwood connector that came with the stereo, but...

There does not appear to be an earth cable from the original loom? Haynes says it should be a black cable?
Also there is an 'illumination' cable? I see it runs to the cigar lighter socket, is this redundant?

Any help, greatly appreciated (Y)

I believe the original head unit was earthed to the car by its metal frame. Some of "modern" radios can still do it (JVC I think) and dont need earth cable, but will only work slotted in as its touching the cars frame. You gotta try that or earth it your self.

McKenzie's spot-on. There is no earth wire. I used a wire with a hoop on each end when I had a K11. Bolt one end to a metal bit of the car and the other to the HU itself, they usually come with a threaded hole in the middle at the back :).
